WHOO ITG TOURNEY =D

So, I was gone today from 10 AM ALL the way til 11 PM at an ITG tourney. Honestly, it was the best tourney that I had.

There were three different tournaments, the regular tournament, a sight-reading tournament, and a mod reading tournament.

TOURNAMENT ONE--Official

Well, compared to all of the players that came out to the tournament (WinDEU, The Cosmic Pope, Rynker, Terminator, dark-xuxa, and a lot more good players where that came from), I honestly didn't think that I was going to qualify well. BUT, after the qualifier, I ended seeding 5th. I guess it's not bad, seeing as how I didn't expect to even place above 10.

So, being 24 players, and two different flights (or brackets, if you will.)--you have to line up the matches based on seeds. So, if you do the math, 5 goes against 12.

Here's the twist. One of the good players did pretty bad on the qualifier round. And that person, was WinDEU.

Great, I'm doomed. First round KO. I'm done.

Song 1--Energizer (Hard)

Pretty close score, but WinDEU edges me out by about .4%. So, I'm not looking in such good shape.

Song 2--Simply Being Loved (Somnambulist)[EDIT: 11 block]

One of my favorite songs, and it had one hell of a chaotic chart. Lucky for me, I had practiced the crap out of it--and managed to pull an upper 98% on WinDEU, giving me match #2.

Song 3--I Love Orange Things

Uh yeah. Me and Nick looked at each other, giving that "WTF is this shit" face. And that's exactly how it was--nothing but a sightread for us. It sure flip-flopped quickly too. By about 30% into the song, I was down by 4%. So, I thought it was over, but I kept trying. I look up at the scores again by about 70% through, and see that I was AHEAD by 4%. Keep moving on, and we think the song is over. A nice, calm line of 12th notes, at what we thought was around 115 BPM. ZOOM, BPM doubles. I take the win, and pull a HUGE upset.

This was really great for me, seeing as how I wasn't even sure of getting through the first round. Progressing through the tournament, I had to go against this younger kid named Keith (he was pretty good too.).

Then, in the semi-finals, I knew that it was going to be a huge hill to climb, seeing as how I have to go against The Cosmic Pope. This guy, is fucking amazing, I kid you not. Sick ass player.

I didn't win this round, but I gave his ass a good run for his money. ;D

I had the first pick--and I picked Euphoria. BAD idea--as I had been sitting out for a while and my legs had gotten really stiff. Pretty easy win for Pope.

He picks Tell. This song, is such a bitch, I knew that I was gonna lose it right away.

But--the last song, which I got to pick (because it was best of five.)--That is Fair (by WinDEU). VERY trilly chart, and very speedy. Coming up about 50% through, and I noticed that I had about a .4% lead. It's not much, but against someone of this caliber, I'll definitely take it.

About 80% through, my legs couldn't take it anymore, and I just stopped. The road ends at the semis. However, since it is the semis, you need to have the losers of each match play for 3rd place.

Long story short, last song was Summer ~Speedy Mix~, and I lost by about only .6%. No cash prize, nothing.

TOURNAMENT 2--SIGHTREADING

I'm pretty disappointed about this end, but there was really nothing I could do about it.

In this tournament, we were told that there were 5 stepcharts, difficulties 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 (respectively.). Everyone hung outside until they were called into the room that we played in, to try the song. First round was a cut to the top 16. I made it top 16 (seeded 5, in fact.). But, after getting a solid 98% on the 10 footer (which I thought would put me into the next round), got me eliminated. Big disappointment there.

TOURNAMENT 3--MOD READING

This tournament was a test of everyone's mod reading ability. Unlike the last tournament, this cut was much more of a vicious cut, a cut to the top 8. With 21 people trying the qualifier, that's more than 60% of the field getting cut. But, after the qualifier, I checked my stats, and what I seen, shocked me. I was seed #1. :O

The way the first round worked was pretty interesting in my point of view. For the first song of each match, the higher seed picked the song, and the lower seed drew index cards from a mod deck. A minimum of three cards was required for each song, and more could be added if you wanted to.

So, being seed 1, I got to go against seed 8. Pretty easy battle, and a lack of difficult to read mods, and I moved on.

Semifinals were a bit interesting. Since our machine owner happens to be really good at course scripting, there are a fuckton of custom mods on there. One of them, is a union mod. Basically, both players are reading one chart, solo singles. This is all done by a mod script.

Being first seed, I get to pick another song. This time, I pick a song with a slow middle--Bloodrush. My opponent completely screwed up the middle part, and failed. After that, he had his song of choice, from which I won as well, eliminating that opponent.

The final match, was against one of ITG's top players known, Rynker (search him on youtube, he's a fucking beast. D: ). This match was amazing, and I mean it in an awesome way. Everyone knows that WinDEU outdoes himself when it comes to mods, but when it comes to him hosting a mod tournament, you know the final round was gonna be something special.

And it was. The final round, was A WHOLE COURSE. Now, if you have been into this forum before, you might have seen Insomnia Finale played by me and Darklink. Sickening, yes. WinDEU created a whole course, completely dedicated to the tournament. There was a crapload of hard combinations, as well as a ton of stutters. But the last song, surprised even myself.

The final song of the match, called shift, is pretty self explanatory in its own sense. Every so often, the arrows "shift" their positions (meaning flip, invert, and combinations of the two.). Not even WinDEU thought that it was going to be passed as a sightread, but it was done by both of us. And, I ended up with the higher score, taking the mod tourney! =D

I get my entry fee back. =D

I'm gonna post videos of the tournament as they come up, but man, I posted about this tournament, cause it was my most successful by far--with the win in the mod tournament, and 4th in the main one.

NO MODS either. It was a straight forward round to advance in the main tournament (in fact, it was the song before that crappy sightread. XD)

You're not too bad yourself Meteor. If you really whore the crap out of some songs, you can really get better. If you have a USB (which I remember you having), you should put some Mungyodance boss songs, and whore them out. I seriously increased my speed just whoring ONE song in that pack. And with practice, your stamina will boost like crazy too. It's all about time and practice. Very Happy

i only have r23

and i have to pay to use it and im not made of money so its really hard for me to play any

i do have a red octane afterburner pad at home though so i guess i will try using it later today on destination and final destination and some of those songs...

Destination is pretty easy though.

And a lot of people don't know the other boss songs either. You want a painful boss song? Try "The Rails", or "Impossible Fidelity" (Impossible Fidelity = STAMINA AS FUCK)

When I get home from what I have to do today, I will look for some more vids to post from the tourney.

Wow man that's amazing. I don't think I'd ever even consider entering an ITG tournament, although it would be a hell of a lot of fun. I can't really go past 11's, let alone 13's. So with that in mind, you did amazingly well. And I was really upset to read that you lost in the sightread tourny. I also like how all you got out of it was as much money as you payed to enter XD

You're amazing man. After watching those videos, that was an amazing win against Rynker. Mods are definitely not my strongest =/
